Abstract: In this paper a method for calculating circuit parameters of impulse voltage generator is presented. The generation of steep front wave by using oil gap is studied. Finally the testing result using steep front wave and standard lightning wave are give.

1. Introduction
Because people are paying more attention on the investigation of steep front wave of suspension insulator, a large amount of human and material resources are put into the research at home and abroad, resulting in the generation of impulse voltage generator circuit of 2500kV/μs steep front wave. Generation and debugging of steep wave waveform is a very difficult work. 600kV impulse voltage generator with steep front wave equipment is presented in this paper. It also introduces a method for calculating parameters and debugging results.![]()
