New Challenges and Prospect of Nuclear Power in 2015

The first half of 2015 witnessed development and challenges of Chinese nuclear power industry. Challenges nuclear power faced with during China's economy entering "new normal" and the course of nuclear power to follow in the reformation of electric power system in the future revealed its importance for the first time through practices during the first half of 2015.

At present, Chinese nuclear power development is confronted with many unsolved problems, one of which is to realize the goal of transportation and installation of 58MW nuclear power by the end of 2020. Insiders estimate that the amount of nuclear power installed should reach 10MK by the end of 2015 in order to fulfill the ultimate target.

Auxiliary documents of new power reform issued in the first half of the year clearly states that nuclear power should bear the task of peak regulation. Although working hours of nuclear power increased 27 hours as a whole in the first half this year, some nuclear power plants were far from initial project expectation. Therefore, with China's economy entering the "new normal", urgent affairs are to build nuclear power plant and control operation costs.

Weighing external environment and technological condition of all types of power source, the government of China has confirmed development strategy of nuclear power. It is now a period full of opportunities for Chinese nuclear power development. At present, it has been widely accepted in the industry that the amount of nuclear power installed would reach 150MW and even larger in scale in the middle and long term.
