Power Load Hit a Historic High in Shanghai & Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province

The hot weather has arrived following a plum rain season. Since July 20, 2016, the temperature has soared in several southern provinces and cities of China and high temperature is expected to extend to more areas, causing a sharp increase in the scheduling power load. On July 22, the peak load in Shanghai  hit 22.98 million kilowatts (kW), 87.28 million kW for Jiangsu province and 66.28 million kW for Zhejiang province, hitting a historic high.     

The State Grid Shanghai Electric Power Co., LTD has made good preparations for summer summit. On July 22, 2016, the maximum amount of electricity transmitted from other areas was up to 16.03 kW and local units had a maximum output of 20 million kW. This year, the company has put 102 key projects into operation on schedule, improved more 5.7 million kW·A substation capacity and made steady progress in maintaining and upgrading electric facilities of old residential districts.

Besides, in order to deal with all kinds of emergencies in time, the company better allocates 173 emergency stations and over 2000 various maintenance staff and 400 vehicles all over the city to guarantee a 24-hour service.  standards.

The demand for maximum scheduling electricity load in Jiangsu province is expected to range from 89 million kW to 92 million kW this summer, a year-on-year growth of 5.0%~8.5%. As the electricity load rises, the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company has arranged 10 million kW unit connected. By July 21, the maximum generation capacity has stood at 75.5 million kW, with the electricity transmitted from outside Jiangsu province up to 14 million kW. The company will effectively do power-supply work well and strive for other resources to satisfy the growing demand for the electricity to a maximum extent.          

At present, the Lingzhou-Shaoxing UHVDC project is at the system debugging stage. The power grid in Zhejiang will form a provincial power grid based on “two AC two DC” UHV networks after the project is put into operation, greatly improving the capability of utilizing clean energies and receiving the electricity from other provinces.
