Sino-Latin America Collaboration in Photovoltaic Industry is Rolling on the Fast Lane

Increase in demand for electric resource in Latin America, government support and market demand for photovoltaic equipment composes stimulation for development of solar power in Latin America. Chinese photovoltaic solar industry has the advantages of high technology, low cost and outstanding production capacity, according to industry source, Sino-Latin America collaboration in photovoltaic field is rolling on the fast lane.

GTM report indicated that solar power generation capacity in Latin America increased 370% in the year 2014, reaching 625MW, a three-digit figure of increase is expected in 2015. Analysts in photovoltaic industry say that Latin American demand for solar power is anticipated to occupy 2% of total global demand over the next four years, Mexico, Brazil and Chile are the tree major promising markets in Latin America.

Brazil, the biggest economy in Latin America, is an up-rising star in solar power. Though resourceful in solar power, the solar power industry has yet received enough attention in Brazil over the past years. Last year Brazil saw the most severe drought in 80 years that crippled the national power supply system, hence the sunny nation reinforced development of photovoltaic industry.

It is estimated that within 25 years, 20% power in Brazil will be solar, national install capacity will reach 80.5GW. Five years later, capital flowing into solar field will reach $ 93 billion.

The promising prospect of Latin American market is attracting focus from the world photovoltaic industry, the recent Latin America Solar Expo held in Brazil attracted manufacturers and buyers all over the continent.

The BYD booth exhibiting its latest photovoltaic product “Module 2.0” drew the attention of a crowd of audience and buyers. “Module 2.0” is a 24-railing double glass solar module, with 335W high power and features of high efficiency, high stability and extended life expectancy that is estimated to be 50 years.

Solar power is considered an expensive energy at present, yet with the advancing technology, it can be obtained at continuously lower cost. Similar to the circumstances in Japan a few years ago, publicity material of the Chinese exhibitors were taken by visitors in short notice, this account for the trend that Sino-Brazil collaboration in photovoltaic capacity will accelerate along with rapid development of photovoltaic industry in Brazil in the years to come.
