With the continuous improvement of the requirements of high-voltage level On-site impulse Voltage test and insulation test, the demand for high output capacity and flexible impulse voltage generator is becoming increasingly strong.To this end, a HIVG 2400 kV/240 kJ vehicle-mounted impulse voltage generator with the integrated design of the main structure was developed, the mechanical and electrical characteristics of this type of impulse voltage generator were calculated, the mechanical bearing margin and the peak positio of the electric field of its key parts were analyzed, and ten type tests were carried out for demonstration and verification. The deflection of the end of the pillar barrel of the developed generator is 75 mm, the bending stress is 8.3 MPa, the safety margin is 7.2 times, the output of the hydraulic cylinders on both sides is 38.6 WN, and the safety margin is 1.3 times. The peak surface field strength is 20.4 kV/cm, which is located at the metal flange connecting the pulse capacitor and resistor, and there is no partial discharge phenomenon.

The lightning impulse test voltage is generated by the impulse voltage generator. The multiple capacitors of the impulse voltage generator are converted from parallel to series by many ignition ball gaps, that is, the ignition ball gap is controlled so that the multiple capacitors are connected in series when it is discharged. The speed at which the voltage rises on the test device and how quickly the voltage drops after the peak can be adjusted by the resistance value in the capacitor circuit. The resistors include: wave-head resistors and wave-tail resistors. During the test, the predetermined wavehead time and half-wave peak time of the standard impulse voltage wave are obtained by changing the resistance of the wave head resistors and the wave tail resistors. By changing the polarity and amplitude of the output voltage of the rectifier power supply, the polarity and peak of the required impulse voltage wave can be obtained. This makes it possible to realize impulse voltage generators from hundreds of thousands of volts to millions of volts or even tens of millions of volts. The maximum voltage of the impulse voltage generator designed and installed by China itself is 10000kV. The lightning impulse voltage test consists of 4 items.

(1) Impulse Voltage withstand test: It is usually used for non-self-recovery insulation, such as the insulation of transformers, reactors, etc., in order to test whether these equipment can withstand the voltage specified in the insulation level.

(2) 50% Impulse flashover test: usually self-resettable insulation such as insulators, air gaps, etc., the purpose is to determine the voltage value U with a flashover probability of 50%. With this standard deviation between the voltage value and the flashover value, other flashover probabilities can also be determined, such as a 5% flashover voltage value, and U is generally used as the withstand voltage.

(3) Breakdown test: The purpose is to determine the actual strength of the insulation. It is mainly carried out in electrical equipment manufacturing plants.

(4) Voltage-Time curve test: The voltage time curve is the relationship between the application of voltage to insulation failure (or porcelain insulation flashover) and time. The volt-time curve (V-t curve) can provide a basis for considering the insulation coordination between protected equipment,e.g. transformers and protective equipment,e.g. lightning arresters.

(5) Switching Impulse Test.

The whole HIVG 2400kV 240kJ system can be raised up in 5min, and easy transport by trailer. see below photo.
